October is Bullying Prevention Month

Workplace bullying can pose a safety challenge that has to be handled with care and in consideration to your job.  According to UC Davis Health policy, bullying is defined as “repeated behavior that a reasonable person would find hostile, offensive, and unrelated to business interests: bullying may be verbal, nonverbal, written and/or physical.” (Policy 1649)

These factors as well as others can cause your work experience to be an unpleasant one.

Here are some things you can do to help with workplace bullying:

  1. Call attention to the bully’s action directly, calmly, and professionally.
  2. Document the pattern of incidents and contact your manager or supervisor to report what is happening.
  3. If you notice that a coworker is being bullied, call attention to the behavior, offer emotional support, and encourage them to report the behavior if it continues.
