SAOs for the Future

Program Overview

The UC Davis Student Affairs Officers (SAOs) for the Future program is intended to cultivate a diverse pool of highly talented and motivated staff interested in pursuing entry-level SAO positions. This is a 10- month development program for up to thirty UC Davis participants. The campus Strategic Plan states that “UC Davis will enhance existing programs and create new initiatives to assist in the recruitment, development and retention of the highest-quality faculty and staff.”

The SAOs for the Future program supports the campus commitment to develop and retain a distinguished and diverse staff and is intended to increase participants’ sense of community and commitment to UC Davis. The program is structured according to the competency model developed at UC Davis for SAO positions and is designed to develop strength in the following six competencies:

  • Student Advising
  • Interpersonal Communication
  • Service Orientation
  • Diversity Commitment
  • Program Administration
  • Self Management
