Academic Advising Coffee Talk: Feel the Fear and do it Anyway

Why Mastering Fear is Critical in Living a Life of Purpose

Course Description

How many times has fear stood in the way of you following your passion? This coffee talk will focus on how fear has the unique ability to steal potential, to stand in the way of dreams, to prevent people from living lives full of intentionality and purpose. This topic is especially important to address in the face of the mental health issues we are seeing in our students related to identity, risk, and failure. We will discuss the pitfalls of living in fear and discuss how to feel the fear and do it anyway. Participants will walk away with a greater understanding of the different levels of fear and concrete, innovative, and sustainable tools to work through fear (personally and with your students).

 Participants will:

1. Understand the three different levels of fear and the five truths about fear

2. Be aware of the pain to power vocabulary and have tools to expand comfort zones

3. Be clear on the importance of taking responsibility for our own lives and ways to work with students in this area

4.Be familiar with the importance of mindset and creative ways to create a more positive mindset

5.Know how to make no-lose decisions

6.Understand the importance of saying YES

7.Be aware of how to choose into love and trust
