Liability for Public Property

Instructor:
Gregory Fox, J.D.

"Did you know???. . .

The UC Davis campus has responsibility for the safety of: 5,286 acres; 1,275 structures; 30,000 students; 17,000 employees; over 1,000,000 campus visitors each year; 400 sporting events; and 50,000+ campus-sponsored events and facility uses.

The university must depend on each and every employee to be safety-conscious and aware of situations or conditions that could lead to injury or loss of property. How do you assess whether a condition warrants immediate attention? How are corrections or improvement projects prioritized? This course is designed to provide you with a fundamental knowledge of negligence and also how to recognize "dangerous conditions," as defined by law. It will also include ways in which to effectively manage and mitigate those risks.

This course is designed for all staff members who may have the responsibility for coordination, assignment for booking facilities for public events, security and emergency response, and those with the responsibility for design, construction, maintenance, inspection, supervision of campus facilities, sporting activities, grounds and special events.
