Course Preparation:
Complete the on-line "Academic Personnel Administration: Overview." Also, review and be familiar with the basic information on this topic that is found on the Academic Personnel Website.
Is conflict a normal part of the work environment? Would you like to become more effective in your understanding and approach to conflicts that occur in your academic department? This course provides skills to help understand and manage that conflict as it relates to the academic personnel process. Participants will gain an understanding of communication and negotiation strategies, the principles and resources for identifying and managing conflict, with an emphasis on taking action at the earliest possible level. This course provides a hands-on approach to conflict situations, including use of the Campus Mediation Program, and a discussion of applicability of related policies and resources to manage and administer grievance procedures for Senate and Federation appointees (Academic Personnel Manual Sections 015, 016, 035, 140, 150, Policy and Procedure Manual Sections 210-75 and 380).
Note: This course is required for the Academic Personnel Administration Certificate Series.
